Mental health is an important part of overall health of a person. A mental illness is a mental health condition that affects the way of thinking, relating to others, and day-to-day activities which we do on a daily basis.

Mental illness can affects all group of people (young and old, male and female, irrespective of their education level, and income level). The good news is that it can often be treated.


Common signs and symptoms of mental illness


- Having difficulty concentrating; mind going blank

- Having sleep problems, or unsatisfying sleep

- Feelings of hopelessness, or pessimism

- Thoughts of death or suicide

- Unusual shifts in mood, energy, activity levels

- Movement disorders (agitated body movements)

- Addictions

- Losing interest in activities you once enjoyed

- Experiencing changes in your appetite or weight


Sometimes, symptoms of a mental illness first appear as physical problems such as stomach aches, back pain, or insomnia.


People with a mental illness can often ease their symptoms and feel better by talking with a therapist and following a treatment plan that may or may not include medication.
